Way back in the 1940’s, Sri Managobinda Mohanty set out to start the BICO, Ranisal & Gonua mines in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. A few decades later after his demise, his eldest son Sri Rajib Lochan Mohanty inspired by his late father, established M/s. M.G. Mohanty a partnership firm in 1981,committed to iron ore mining in Odisha. Since then, M/s. M.G. Mohanty have been developing and operating their own Iron & Manganese Mines in the mineral rich district of Sundergarh in the state.

Sri Tanuj Mohanty is a committed management Professional currently heading the operations of the firm. He has been instrumental in driving the success of M/s M.G Mohanty through his extensive expertise in Project management, Budgeting, Risk management & Leadership skills.
Sri Rajib Lochan Mohanty is a Marine Engineer of 1967 Batch from DMET-MERI and he has served On Board Foreign Going Vessels of SCI Ltd. India and DDG ‘Hansa’ Bremen , Germany for more than 10 years. He is a MEO – Class 1 Certificate holder. He is also the former President of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries & President of the Eastern Zone Mining Association . Sri Rajib Lochan Mohanty is also the Managing Partner of M/s. M.G. Mohanty and Director in various other Companies.

M/s. M.G. Mohanty Mines is located in the mineral-rich Koida belt of Odisha.The Firms calibrated iron ore lump and iron ore fines are amongst the best quality available in the country. The growth narrative of the mining firm has been in sync with the needs of the state of Odisha. As a pioneer mine developer our vision is to make the state and country self-reliant and reduce dependency on imports.The firm consistently prioritizes innovation, striving to establish new benchmarks, improve capabilities, enhance quality of life, and uphold its core values. The Firms mining division also ensures all statutory clearances required for mining and allied activities along with environmental management at all times.
The grade of iron ore produced from both the mines varies from 58% to 65% Fe, average being +60% Fe. Production capacity of both the mines at present is 3,00,000 T/Annum and shall be enhanced to 6,92,000 T/Annum from 2024-25.
Mining of iron ore from the mines is undertaken by fully mechanised means with deployment of 100 mm dia blast hole drills for loosening of hard rock mass, 2.1 m3 capacity excavators for excavation, 2.1 m3 & 1.5 m3 excavator for feeding and loading, 25 T to 35 T capacity dumpers for transportation of ROM ore to the screening and crushing plants, stacks and waste to the waste dumps. Both the mines have been developed in a very systematic and scientific manner with benching patterns having width of all benches more than the corresponding heights.
